Conferences & Prize Competition
Thursday, 01 December 2016 11:19
csc logoChess in School conferences have been coming thick and fast, especially in the second half of this year.

There was the conference in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia (see here and the web site here).

A few weeks later, the 1st ECU Education Chess Conference was held in Batumi, Georgia (article here).

Next up is London (10-12 December) - The Didactics of Chess . There will be over 60 speakers - details here.
The London Conference is partly sponsored by the ECU and again features a prize competition, with €1000 in prizes, for the best original chess exercise involving collaborative problem solving. Entries close soon (December 4) so click on 'read more' for details and act fast!

ecu-logoWe want exercises in which children must work together to solve a problem. There is no template or standard problem – it is up to your imagination. We are aware that many chess tutors already use group exercises with children. It may just be a matter of writing down what it is that you do. The answer is that it should be something that you have devised yourself or adapted from another format.

The exercise must involve children working together as a pair, a table or the whole class. It is essential that they interact with each other in solving the problem. It is necessary for the children to exchange information with each other about the problem.

Full details of the competition and how to enter are here. Remember - closing date December 4 (17:00 London time).
