School Instructor seminar Cap Aurora Romania
Friday, 22 July 2016 11:21
small1The first SI seminar to be held in Romania took place in Cap Aurora - Jupiter at the end of June.

17 participants, some of them chess coaches, others schoolteachers with little or no experience of chess, made an interesting mixed class.

The great experience of lecturer Vlad Ungureanu enabled him to bridge the gap between those with great pedagogic experience (but little chess) and those with great chess experience (but little pedagogical knowledge).

Chess in Schools Forum Geneva

smallThe 1er Forum Echecs et Education was held in Geneva last month.

The event was organized by the Fédération Genevoise d'échecs (FGE)  and the Association Internationale des Echecs de la francophonie (AIDEF) in association with FIDE, ECU and the city of Geneva.

Contributions came from many countries (especially from Africa francophone).

After an introduction by  Madame Joëlle Leutwyler (adjointe de direction au service enseignement et évaluation, direction générale de l'enseignement obligatoire), the three main speakers were AIDEF President Patrick van Hoolandt, CiS Commission Chairman Kevin O'Connell and FGE President GM Gilles Miralles.

Click on Read More for more materials from this event, starting with commentary by Patrick van Hollandt (in French) and his presentation (also in French) including an important section on why teaching chess in French is so important.
Chess in Schools in French - la francophonie
Thursday, 02 June 2016 18:30
logoThe Association Internationale des Echecs de la francophonie (AIDEF) has become very active in the past few years. The Forum Echecs et Education and School Instructor seminar (see below) in Geneva, in association with the Fédération Genevoise d'Echecs, FIDE, ECU and the city of Geneva, are recent examples of this activity. We wish them well with future developments, especially their stated aim to develop the teaching of chess in all its Members States.

We are pleased and proud that we (CiS) have produced so much of our teaching and support material in French, especially because of the role this will play in the development of chess in Africa.

We are grateful to AIDEF President Patrick van Hoolandt for the following material which tells you about AIDEF and its activities.

At the end of 2012, when I was elected President of AIDEF as a successor to Noureddine Tabbane, we were 9 members only. Today, thanks to the association’s dynamism, we have 38 members, including 33 national federations.

The current list of members is posted on our website:
