Chess in Education Conference - Tsaghkadzor

The 2019 Chess in Education conference in Tsaghkadzor, Armenia was an important event.

What was special? Aside from many significant presentations, there were representatives from several Ministries of Education.

Usually, attendees are already involved in the field, but getting the involvement of Ministers, Secretaries and other representatives from national Educational authorities is essential if we are to succeed in our objective of using chess as an educational tool - something to improve educational outcomes, not something dedicated to producing chess players.

If you know anyone, especially school teachers, who needs to acquire the basics, then this is ideal.
All courses are completely free
Each course has a mentor to help you and there is also a forum for the learners. 

There are 5 courses, all in English:
First Level - Basic (parts 1&2)
Second Level - Intermediate (parts 1&2)
Third Level - Advanced (part 1)

EDUCommission meeting

sl-graceThe first face-to-face meeting ,of the Chess in Education Commission (EDU) took place in Tsaghkadzor 5-6-7-8 May. It was led by Chairman Smbat Lputian and Grace (our brilliant translator).

Members of the Commission were joined, among others, by FIDE Vice President Nigel Short and FIDE Honorary Vice-President Judit Polgar, both of whom take a very lively interest in our work.

Nigel Short drew attention to our booklet Chess - A Tool for Education & Health (French edition, Spanish edition), of which he said I found the booklet to be an immensely helpful resource when approaching education ministries and governments around the world.

Speakers include FIDE Deputy President Bachar Kouatly, Armenian Minister of Education Arayik Harutyunyan, FIDE Honorary Vice President Judit Polgar and FIDE Vice President Nigel Short.

The packed programme includes 21 presentations on topics relevant to the conference theme: Current state and development trends of chess education.

Iceland visit

The EDU Commission Chairman accompanied the FIDE President on his visit to Iceland.

Discussions about chess in schools and using chess as a tool for education were held with the Icelandic Federation and its President Gunnar Bjornsson.
